NEW RELEASE: Mementos EP [RZH016] on Rayzeh (Deep Tech / Minimal)

I am pleased to present my new record! Mementos EP is a sleek deep tech record featuring lush synths, driving rhythms, and dubby sensibilities. Published on Rayzeh out of Slovenia, this little banger of an EP is sure to groove you out!

The Tracks

Mementos is a dubby groover built on lush, delayed stabs and a distinctive bass line.
Palace of the Mind (Original Mix) is a more subdued take on the idea, molding the shorter stab synth from Mementos into longer, swirling hits with a bit more movement.
Palace of the Mind (Minimal Mix) is a totally stripped down version of the original mix. I gutted the big synths and laser-focused the bottom, leaving a crisp, sparse thumper beneath subtle atmospheres.

The Inspiration

Mementos EP is the first record I produced in the newly (mostly) renovated studio. I had grown frustrated with the sound of my room and the time it added to my production turnaround time. My lightly treated room was still particularly problematic in the sub-200Hz range, and that led to many, many iterations during the mixing process before I would finally arrive at a result I (more or less) liked.

I had decided enough was enough and I treated the room with a combination of pre-fab and quality DIY bass absorbers, including the installation of a cloud. The result was a drastic improvement in the room’s sound. (I do plan to write an in-depth article on the room treatment process – when I complete phase 3 of the renovation process, so stay tuned!)

I could finally hear what I was doing! Like, really hear it! I had put off proper low-end treatment for a long time due to the cost, but let me tell you – I wish I had done it sooner.

Mementos EP was the first run on the newly-treated studio space. I put it together in record time because each decision I made during the production and mixing process was precise and deliberate, and I cut the number of iterations down to about a quarter. The minimal mix was complete after just one round of small adjustments!

That just goes to show, my fellow music-makers…
