AudioMunk Delves into Reggae Production with New HEATSEEKER EP

Due out June 4, 2021, Heatseeker EP is an original project produced entirely by AudioMunk. We will be dropping one track on Soundcloud every Friday up until the official release on June 4.

Its a departure from the usual deep tech, house sound I have been cultivating since early 2020, but it has been an adventure diving back into reggae music and fusing it with my other musical loves – namely rock, blues and a hefty infusion of electronics. Making house music is great fun, but sometimes I remember, “Hey – I play guitar, too!”

The Heatseeker EP consists of four tracks and a bonus track, available with the full album purchase on the Heatseeker Bandcamp site. The leading track, “Heatseeker,” is a moody groove that leans into electronics and hip hop. I never knew I could rap, but there I am – rapping on the track with my friend Michael Chapa. It was good fun to step out of my comfort zone and try something completely new to me.

Tracks two and three, “All Day” and “Oceanside,” are more traditional reggae-rock songs. These were fun to make because I have just always loved the genre. All Day was a song I originally wrote for my previous band – before we split up. Oceanside is purely a studio creation, as I wrote the song at my DAW in the studio.

Lastly, “Soundsystem Dub” is a cross between a reggae track and an electronic excursion. Few lyrics and an arrangement closer to those you find in house and dub genres make this one unique. In many ways, this was the one that kick started the Heatseeker project. This one was an experiment – purely me putting my house and electronic sensibilities to the reggae genre and seeing what would happen.
